Interview with Eryn Perez Realtor-Associate

1. How did your career begin, and what inspired you to choose this professional path?

I started my professional career by interning at a local accounting firm while I was completing my high school education at Fresno High. I had an innate desire to learn all that I could about business.

2. Was there a key person or event that influenced the development of your career?

In 2020, I met my mentor, Junus Perry. I wanted to know how real estate worked, but I needed experience, and more importantly someone to teach me. I gained that experience by working in lending for a national mortgage company. After going through paralegal school through Fresno City College, I was confident in my ability to draft contracts and negotiate deals. It was then that I aquired my real estate license and began working for Premium Commercial Group.

3. What do you consider the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your work, and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge I have had to face has been dealing with my own insecurities. I push myself to get out there, connect with people, and to be comfortable speaking to a crowd. I am still working at building a healthy sense of self-confidence, especially as a woman in the commercial real estate industry.

4. What values are most important to you in your professional and personal life?

In both my personal and professional life, I value growth, spirituality, and community. I believe that when we are equipped with the tools we need to be successful, and can appreciate that, we are more likely to want to do the same for others and in turn make the world a better place to live.

5. How do you balance your professional and personal life, especially when faced with a heavy workload?

Being in a boutique office gives me the opportunity to learn more about commercial real estate than the average agent. This also means that between the three of us that are in the office, we can get pretty much anything done. I rely on their support as much as they do mine when we are facing a heavy workload.

6. Is there a project or initiative you are particularly proud of? Why?

I’m very proud of our office’s specialization in transactions involving nursing homes for the elderly. The elderly are a vulnerable class and need more care than others, particularly after the pandemic. Our office works with various nonprofits and for-profits that work to care for and protect the interests of the elderly in communities across California.

7. What are your goals for the near future — both professionally and personally?

In the near future, I plan to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with honors from the Craig School of Business at Fresno State. I will continue to sell commercial real estate and expand my client base. It is then my aspiration to apply for MBA programs to further my knowledge of the industry and its social impact.

8. How do you handle stress and pressure that often come with working in a dynamic environment?

Taking time to breathe and go for a walk has made all the difference. Our office prides itself in valuing mental health and encouraging wellness practices. This allows us to manage our deals and respond to any issues that may arise with a level head and positive outlook.

9. What advice would you give to young people who want to start a career in your field?

I would advise others who are interested in real estate to experience other fields first. For example, working in a customer service position can teach you the skills needed to connect with people. I would also suggest getting a library card and checking out books on business, communication, and sociology! The more we can understand the world around us, the better we will do in life.

10. What does personal development mean to you, and how do you incorporate it into your daily life?

Personal development is the goal of becoming a better person each and every day. I make it my own personal mission to become a better version of myself than I was yesterday. I do this by monitoring my interactions with others, journaling my emotions, and correcting course when I feel I’m not being true to who I want to be in this world.
